Our Sweet Baby Boy!

Well I am a week late, but we have a baby boy! William Kevin Weaver was born on Sunday November 20, 2011 at 21:31. After a somewhat stressful couple of days I thought my water was "leaking" so we decided to go into the hospital on Sunday morning and get it checked out. At this point I was 2 days late from my due date and was very anxious to get this baby out of me. :)
When we got to the hospital they said that I was not leaking. However, my blood pressure was dangerously high and they were worried that I had acute preeclampsia. Basically that is when you have quick onset of high blood pressure and build up of toxins in your body at delivery. It can be very dangerous for mom and baby. We were incredibly confused because my blood pressure was great during my pregnancy, in fact the previous Monday it was below "normal". However, like I said I was very stressed out the couple of days prior to delivery and I think that this was a contributing factor.
Since my blood pressure was so high the doctor insisted that we induce the labor as I had not had any contractions for a couple of days. Originally Matt and I hoped to have a completely natural delivery without any drugs. However, the doctor was very concerned and implied that if they did not get me on pitocin to start my labor she would do a c-section to get the baby out. We decided that the lesser of the two would be to compromise on the drugs. However, I was still determined to have the baby without an epidural. Unfortunately, the pitocin totally kicked my butt and I went from having no contractions at all to having strong contractions every 2-4 minutes lasting about 45 seconds to a minute each. Because of this I could not get myself to relax and handle the contractions how I had been taught. The pain and anxiety was also making my blood pressure go even higher. So again the doctor asked if they could give an epidural to help with the pain, otherwise a c-section would be necessary. I decided that I was not going to be able to handle the contractions and went ahead and got the epidural. At first I was very disappointed in myself for not being able to stick to my guns. But looking back I really feel it was the best decision based on the circumstances.
About 5-6 hours later we started pushing. And about an hour and half later William was born!
Matt took this picture in the nursery when Will was 2 days old. :)
This is the second day home, his outfit looks so big on him.

I love this picture. Daddy and son are so cute!
After several hard days in the hospital we were finally able to come home. Unfortunately, with my blood pressure issues we still have some challenges but things will be better soon.

  3. It sounds like you did a great job and I agree that you made the best decision. Don't feel bad about not being able to do it without the drugs. :( It's a wonderful experience either way!
